Retro beauty

I know. Going to garage sales is declasse.

But I'll accept the lifted eyebrows for the chance to own an as-new   f4.5 Nikon 300.  At  $10.  In 1967 It was something I wanted, sort of needed, and couldn't afford.

The Macro at left  was little cheaper.

I swear, people, I am >this close< to hauling out the FTn bodies and taking real pictures again, even if I have to depend on an outside lab.

You should haul out the Ftn. But if you really wanted to find a nice mate for that 300 f4.5, I see that F3s are going for around $50 in reasonable condition on eBay. The added $25 for a motor drive would probably be worth it as well.

I once wanted an F3, but the current urge is neanderthal. I might even use the F with the original -- non-meter -- prism. How long since anyone took a picture with a camera that didn't even have a place for a battery?

Look at the sky. Look at the shadows. Look at your subject. Hmmm. Tri-X. Call it 1/250 at f8. Bracket to be sure. :)

Awesome!! I have an old-old plain prism no-battery F that I cannot give-up, and once had a 85-250 (I think?) manual focus zoom that I used while shooting motorcycle racing. That required pre-focusing and a good pan (and good thumb-in-the-wind exposure estimate - bright sun! set the speed to the ASA F-16!), but the rewards were good...
