Maybe the worst thing about existing on the northern plains is the noticeable decline of one's brain power. For instance, I can't remember if the current arctic high pressure system is the fourth or fifth of the season. Or whether Al Gore invented global warming and Al Sharpton the internet or the other way around.
There are small compensations. As the neurons freeze, it takes less to amuse myself. I just ran a sunrise errand without carefully brushing all the new snow from the hood. "It will blow off on the highway, and that's very pretty."
The best thing is reading my friends down in the malarial zones. For instance, a Texas lady I know is writing that it may snow on the Rio Grande and using a full year's allocation of exclamation points, and that's almost as amusing as scratching designs on my frosted windows.

It is true. There is the distince possibility of a few flakes - possibly as much as a full inch - of snow here in South Texas. I'll spare my allotment of exclamation points until I actually see it happen.

Well, if it's going to be that bad, make sure you remember to go to the grocery store and lay in a case of toilet paper, extra batteries for your radio, and a hard-working milk cow. :)
(If you think you detect substantial envy here, you're right. Can't imagine why I never bought a little homesead in your part of the world, a refuge from January and February.)
Man, you guys have all the fun!
Talked to a cowboy buddy 40 miles north of Tuscon today and they were colder than we were! Yeahhhh! Take that sun worshipers! :)
A good snow along the Rio Bravo might be beneficial--it makes tracking easier. JAGSC
Update: there was about an inch of ice, followed by snowfall ranging from trace/flurries to nearly two inches. The entire San Antonio metropolitan area is shut down. Highways and schools closed.
Yup. That's right. It appears that hell has frozen over.
Oh, and the high tomorrow will be around 60. If you don't like the weather in South Texas, wait five minutes. It will change.
