Yesterday's loaf

I found a nice recipe for 100 per cent whole-wheat bread.  It was even better when I decided to substitute butter for the vegetable shortening and hard molasses for the sugar.

But I hate incomplete recipes. This one lacked a reminder: "Prior to leaving the kitchen, position the cooling loaf well back on your counter, beyond paw reach of an ungrateful sneaking thieving inconsiderate greedy thoughtless furshlugginer sonuvabitch of a Labrador  retriever."

She left EVIDENCE? What a dumb dog.
8-> I can testify from personal experience that an Aussie Shepherd will only leave a clean[er] spot on a counter that formerly held a pot roast...

She was just showing appreciation for your cooking. Like John, I can testify to the ability of a beagle to clamber up on the table, retrieve the steak from your interrupted dinner, then proceed to happily chomp on it behind the couch containing unexpected callers. JAGSC

I really hate to call a feller down, who's blog I admire, but come on! Can't you come up with a better excuse? :D

Has all that fiber made a reappearance yet?

Dammit you guys.I really wanted that bread, and I'd hoped for a little more empathy.

As for you, Mr. JMW, it isn't the sort of thing that I really like to sniff out. But I suppose I can decline to mow Miss Libby's comfort zone and see it it sprouts hard red wheat this season.
