Risque Piece

The heart of this Pelosi pleaser is an Augusta Arsenal rebuild of a 1911. It should shoot okay (not quite done, yet) but the general idea is to irritate the authoritarians. The carbine kit is from the 1980s or '90s, a 16 1/2 - inch barrel and walnut stock serviceable also as an emergency canoe paddle.

Part of the fun is its very illegal appearance. (It is if you install only the stock.)

To truly annoy Dame Pelosi, one must install a barrel shroud and "a shoulder thing that goes up" on that 1911.

But I thought a barrel shroud WAS the "shoulder thing that goes up"!

So, you finally got it set up? I have been keeping an eye on your blog since January.

I would love to know how you attached the stock - did you modify an arched mainspring housing? What tools did you use to cut the grooves? How does it shoot? Does it cycle reliably? What weight recoil spring did you use?

I know - I should get off my butt and do mine, but with only ordinary hand tools, I am not sure how to proceed.

The buntline barrel shoots fine without the stock, and I can't see that changing anything. If yours doesn't function well I'd simply experiment with recoil springs.

Yes, the stock attaches to a spare arched housing. The technique for a guy without a milling machine is: Install the spare housing. Scribe two lines on it along the frame. Move the housing to a good vise and go to work with the edge of a small file. You want each groove about 1/16th of an inch deep to accept the stock bracket which are tightened with four screws.

You'll also need a groove on the rear of the housing to accommodate the stock tightening cam. I haven't doped that out yet.

Nothing very difficult, just a little tedious.
