Not to be a copper bore again, but the stuff is selling at another record-- $4.40+ a pound. Lead has hit $1.17+, and this all combines to send me to town for another two or three Federal 550 bulk packs.
I'm already over my locked-away strategic reserve target, but a guy can never have too many rounds in the plinking can when there's every reason to believe that .22 LRs at less than 4 cents a round are about to become history.

While restocking my ammo cupboard the other day, I put the new stuff away and put the older boxes on top of them. Noticed the price tags on two boxes of pistol ammo purchased 18 months apart- $16 and $25 for the exact same brand and load.
Get it while you can.

I couldn't agree more. I'm about to ease off on the .22 LR buys and shift into those 12 gauge "valu-paks" of a hundred. Maybe more important, I think it's time to get more serous about laying in a ridiculously large backlog of primers.
For what it's worth, I consider theTEOTWAWKI -- a new dark age -- fairly unlikely. I see serious inflation, however, as a 50-50 (at best) shot and look on the ammunition stash as one defense against it.
